BT
BT, one of the world's leading providers of communications solutions, has standardised on Acronis True Image Enterprise Server at its data centre in Telephone House in Belfast, Northern Ireland. By ensuring that BT can restore servers in minutes instead of hours, Acronis True Image has enabled BT to reduce server downtime considerably.
Redcliffe City Council
Redcliffe City Council in Queensland operates with over 30 servers working on Windows® and Unix®. Their backup procedure involved storing the application data in databases located on other drives and backing them up nightly. The Redcliffe City Council estimated the cost would be too high in the event of an emergency, such as a system or disk failure. Consequently, they decided to implement a more advanced defence against such a situation in order to significantly minimise their recovery time and outlay by using Acronis True Image.
VicRoads
The 45 Registration and Licensing offices of the Business Operations Division of VicRoads hosts 250 servers, including four BladeCenters and 40 blade servers. Of these blade servers, half are single disk SAN connected blades. Windows® 2003 is the main platform operating in the offices with a small number of Windows® 2000, and NT platforms (currently being upgraded to Windows® 2000).
VicRoads had no remote imaging process in place for backup of servers located at the Registration and Licensing offices. When one of their offices experienced a server crash, VicRoads began looking for an imaging product so as to avoid lengthy downtimes in the future. They also wanted to ensure the recovery process would be quick and straightforward without placing extra strain on staff.
VicRoads has discovered other benefits of Acronis True Image, not initially considered when acquiring the software. Aside from providing backup and recovery relief, VicRoads have improved space issues by partitioning their disks and utilising the freed-up space.
Cathay Pacific Holidays
Cathay Pacific Holidays receives a large percentage of bookings via email or an online booking facility on its Website and operates six Windows-based servers. These host daily-use documents and images of hotels, destinations, various other travel-related marketing and sales documents, email, faxes, voice and data records of calls made to Cathay Pacific Holidays' call center, and databases containing customer information.
"With the data volume growing at a fast rate, we have had, in the past few years, needed to install new backup devices every one or two years. Five years ago we were using a 20/40 GB backup drive. We added a 100/200 GB drive three years ago, and that was followed a year later by a 200/400 GB tape autoloader. As you can imagine, these 'investments' became harder and harder to justify from an ROI perspective," said Gemini Wong, IT Manager, Cathay Pacific Holidays.
Besides zero downtime, a much shorter backup cycle, and lower TCO, the use of Acronis True Image Enterprise Server at Cathay Pacific Holidays has also enabled the IT team to provide a higher level of service to their end-user colleagues.
