NetApp provides a powerful remote administration solution for today´s open storage networks. The FilerView tool, available on every NetApp storage appliance, enables IT administrators to use Web browsers to access a consistent, easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) for everyday administration tasks.
Administrators can set up and control any NetApp storage appliance remotely—from virtually anywhere and from any computing platform—without disruption to business-critical operations. After installation, administrators can efficiently monitor status, satisfy requests for additional storage capacity, and make changes to file system configurations. Administrators can also expand volumes or add new Common Internet File System (CIFS) shares to an attached Windows NT® domain-while file systems remain accessible to users.
Simple and Intuitive User Interface
FilerView serves as the primary interface to undertake administrative tasks ranging from installation to complete configuration. FilerView eliminates the need to learn special languages or command-line interfaces to configure and maintain NetApp storage appliances. With only a Web browser, administrators can access the point-and-click GUI and navigate through the screens to perform tasks. A navigation tree is constantly displayed to provide easy maneuvering between tasks.
Increased Productivity at Every Step
From setup to configuring, monitoring, and modifying storage appliances and volumes, FilerView speeds the execution of administrative tasks and makes filer administration easy and error-free.
Fast Installation and Setup
FilerView reduces filer installation to a few simple steps. After assigning an IP address to a filer from a console or a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server, the administrator can use the setup wizard to quickly complete the basic configuration settings.
Robust Configuration and Execution
of Basic Data ONTAP Services The FilerView Web-based approach eliminates the need to learn and use cryptic command-line interfaces for administrative tasks. From a single GUI, administrators can configure and monitor any Data ONTAP resource or service:
- File systems. Disks, volumes, qtrees, and quotas for Network File System (NFS) and CIFS implementations FilerView volume reports display the current configuration status for all volumes.
- Data protection. Snapshot™ and SnapMirror® tools, Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP)
- Availability. Clustered Failover software
- Networking. Interface cards; HTTP, DNS (Domain Name Server), and NIS (Network Information System) servers
- Administration. Security features, autosupport and SecureAdmin™ software, SNMP utilities, resource monitoring tools
Attractive to Novices and Experts
The visual interface, graphical orientation, and online help functions suit novice and expert users alike. For experienced administrators, who prefer to use certain command-line short cuts, FilerView supports access to a command-line interface utilizing a telnet session over hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP).
Secure Administration
FilerView secure mode ensures that all administrative and configuration commands are kept strictly private whether executed over a private network or via the public Internet. Secure mode requires SecureAdmin software, which implements a Secure Socket Layer (SSL 3.0) service on the filer for user authentication and confidentiality of the processed commands over (HTTP).
